Entrance Scholarships, Awards and Scholar-Bursaries

Acadia University has many scholarship opportunities available to our students. Scholarships cover a wide scope of academic pursuits, musical and athletic talents as well as community service and research activities. Our scholarship programs are highly competitive and each year Acadia awards more than $3 million in scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes to new and returning students.

Admissions must receive your Mid-Year Transcript (first semester of Grade 12 results)
Any required scholarship documents are required.
 
BY MID-APRIL
Notifications of Entrance Schoalrships are sent to successful candidates. 
 
 

2012/2013 Entrance Scholarship Program

Grade Based Scholarships

Students with a minimum 80% admission average (as calculated by the Admissions Office using the courses required for admission into your program of study) or higher are considered for an Acadia Entrance Scholarship.

Students entering full-time undergraduate study at Acadia University with an admission average of 90-94.9% will also receive a $1000 non-renewable BMO Financial Group Entrance Scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year. This scholarship has been established through the generosity of the BMO Financial Group.

 

Entrance Scholarships

Students awarded an Acadia Renewable Entrance Scholarship may also be eligible to receive non-renewable entrance scholarship or scholar-bursary.

You may be eligible for Entrance Scholarship consideration if:

  • We have received your Admission Application by March 1st and all required supporting documents before March 15th..
  • You have received notification from the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office stating that you are eligible to be considered for Entrance Scholarships. Once you receive this notification you may be asked to submit additional information. For students whose average is 90% and greater your required documents will be listed at Acadia Central (http://myacadia.acadiau.ca)
  • You are a high school, secondary level student or transfer student.
  • You have an average of at least 80%* in the courses required for admission.  Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.67/80% and be in their first degree program.

If you are selected to receive an entrance scholarship, you will be notified by mid-April.

Acadia University also offers a limited number of special renewable* scholarships to those students who have a 95+ admission average and have demonstrated leadership and outstanding characteristics.

$28,000 ($7,000/year)-    President's Scholarship

$26,000 ($6,500/year)-    International Baccalaureate Scholarship

2012/2013 Scholar-Bursary Program

Entrance Scholar Bursaries can be earned by students who have achieved an 85% average (as calculated by the Admissions Office using the courses required for admission into your program of study) in their senior year of high school or secondary school and who we recognize are in need of financial assistance. Applying for a student loan is one of the easiest ways to show need.

You may be eligible for Entrance Scholar-Bursary consideration if:

  • You are a high school, secondary level student or transfer student.
  • You have an average of at least 85%* in the courses required for admission. Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.67/80%  and be in their first degree program.

(*Average as calculated by the Admissions Office using college-preparatory courses).

  • You can show you have financial need (applying for student loan is the easiest way to show need). Your total gross family income is less than $100,000 (CDN)
  • We have received your Admission Application and all required supporting documents before March 1st.

The majority of our named  Scholarships, Prizes and Awards do not require a separate application, however there are a few listed below that you may wish to apply for, if you meet the criteria listed. The Acadia Alumni Award Program

The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board- Acadia University Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded annually to a student who is of African descent or of Aboriginal descent, a graduate from the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, and who is entering the first year of a Bachelor of Education program at Acadia University. The eligible students must fully complete the application form provided, and accompanied by a Letter of Application.

The scholarship is provided by The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board to assist former AVRSB high school graduate of African descent and one of Aboriginal descent with his or her first year B.Ed program at Acadia University.Value: $1,000    APPLICATION FORM

 

The Harrison McCain Scholar-Bursary

The Harrison McCain Scholar-Bursaries are available annually to entering students attending University who have graduated from a high school in Canada. Each award has a program value of $16,000 payable over a four year course of study in the amount of $4,000 per year. Criteria for the awards include a minimum 80% average in senior year of high school, financial need, leadership qualities, and a recognized initiative in funding your own education. The Port Williams Jam Scholastic Award

The Port Williams Jam Scholastic Award is available annually to an entering Canadian citizen who has been a resident in the Village of Port Williams for at least five years. The recipient will have exhibited scholastic merit, will be able to demonstrate financial need, and have made a positive contribution to community life and church affairs. The Rotary Club of Wolfville - Acadia University Award

The Rotary Club of Wolfville-Acadia University Award is awarded annually on a renewable basis to a student who is a graduate from the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, and who is entering the first year of a degree or certificate program at Acadia University. The eligible student must possess an outstanding high school academic record and demonstrate a "Rotary Spirit" via evidence of community service and/or leadership initiatives that have positively affected the quality of life of others. Preference will be given to students who exhibit financial need.

The award is provided by The Rotary Club of Wolfville in partnership with Acadia University to ensure that outstanding local candidates have an opportunity to attend university. Value: $4,000 per year  Deadline: March 1, 2012 APPLICATION FORM

The Tantramar Scholarship

The Tantramar Scholarship is awarded annually on a renewable basis to an entering student from Tantramar Regional High School registered in a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor/Certificate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science program at Acadia University. Preference will be given to students studying in business administration, engineering, physics, or mathematics and statistics. The recipient will possess the characteristics of John and Anne Wilson, namely he/she will be entrepreneurial, positively involved in the community life of the Sackville, New Brunswick area, and will have demonstrated potential to contribute to, and benefit from, an Acadia University education. The scholarship was established in 2005 by the generosity of the Wilson family and holds a program value of up to $23,000. In addition, the scholarship includes a complimentary room in residence, courtesy of Acadia University, for each of the four years at Acadia at a total value of approximately $16,000.  Please note: To be considered for this scholarship, students must have a minimum 80% average in grade 11 and grade 12.  Deadline: March 9, 2012  APPLICATION FORM 

The Barrett Corporation Award

The Barrett Corporation Award is provided to any students entering Acadia University who are children of full-time employees of Barrett Corporation and its subsidiaries (provided they are not recipients of the Barrett Scholarship). The award will be provided toward the first year of study. Recipients will also receive an offer for summer employment with Barrett Corporation or one of its subsidiaries throughout the student's program at Acadia. The Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls Award in Environmental Science

The Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls Award in Environmental Science is awarded annually to a student in the Environmental Science program at Acadia University who is a child of a full-time Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls employee. Preference will be given to a student entering the first year of the program.

This award was established in 2007 by Mr. Gordon Hicks, President of Brookfield LePage Johnson Controls to encourage children of BLJC employees to enter the Environmental Science program at Acadia University. Deadline: March 15.  Please contact financial.aid@acadiau.ca should you wish to apply 

The VEMCO Entrance Scholarships in Business

The VEMCO ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS IN BUSINESS are awarded annually to two students entering the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program and who have participated in extra-curricular activity. At least one recipient will be a Nova Scotia resident. Preference will be given to the children of VEMCO/AMIRIX Systems Inc. employee’s and those who have demonstrated an entrepreneurial mind-set. The awards are made on recommendation of the Director of the Fred C. Manning School of Business.

The scholarships were established in 2010 through the generosity of VEMCO/AMIRIX Systems Inc. in their support of post-secondary education. Deadline: March 15,2012.   APPLICATION FORM
